EP #2 - How to Let Go

This podcast is for all of those who want to learn about how to really LET GO - being it unhelpful thoughts, emotions and so-called ‘baggage’ that you may have been carrying from the past year into the new year 2025.

Hey, I'm so glad that you're here today. Today is going to be a very practical session. If you happen to be one of my existing clients, you know me well. So you are probably already prepared with pen and paper. If you don't have a pen and paper yet, please make sure to always carry a pen and paper with you when you listen into my podcast, because there is so much I want to share with you.

So today is all about letting go. Lots of people actually talk about letting go, and there are different ways on how to do that, of course. For some, it's good enough to do maybe a breathing session, which can be absolutely helpful. For others, it's taking long walks in nature. For others, it can be helpful to do visualisations. And for others, it can be journaling. Whatever you have tried and has helped you with letting go, please continue to do that. It's such a powerful tool once you have found the right one for yourself. To me, it's a variation, actually, of different things, but I can truly say that breathing and journaling and walking in nature has helped me tremendously in the past to let go. I even attended the full moon yoga session lately. It was about two months ago when I went into a full moon yoga session and the yoga teacher who guided us through the session itself. How was that a session?

We had participants who were screaming, laughing, shaking off. They were like, little energising balls jumping up and down. I'm not so much the type of needed to do it, really. I'm more a quiet person when I let go. But if you are one of these personalities and you need to jump up and down to be able to shake it off and let go, then please be my guest -do it. And if you need to scream it off, ensure that maybe you can do it in a safe place where you feel safe and honest too, so that walls are not breaking down and the roof is not coming down, but that you feel you can let go truly. So there are different variations, and there is no wrong here, really.

To do some exercise today, I really want you now to look for a calm and quiet space. Take some pen and paper, and I'm waiting here for you to come back. Well done! I also want to ensure that you are in a safe place now. Maybe you want to grab a glass of water, or a cup of tea, whatever makes you feel comfortable. For some people like me, it's always also to have a candle with me. I just love, love, love to have a candle lit on my desk here.

So, my first question to you is, "What are the most unhelpful thoughts or emotions maybe that you want or need to let go?" Maybe you have been carrying these things in 2024 and just feel like, "Hey, I'm carrying this weight. I'm carrying this stuff that is so unhelpful in this backpack, and it feels so heavy on my shoulders, on my heart, and I just don't want to continue to carry all this into the new year". And who deserves it anyway, right, to carry the weight of maybe others? So just write down the list, the list of maybe unhelpful thoughts, list of relationships, people, emotions, to-dos, projects -anything that you feel is unhelpful and is pulling you down in your energy and taking away so much energy from you.

You don't deserve it, truly. And if nobody has told you that yet, I am the one who is going to tell you now. You have now a choice to either continue to carry this weight with you, or you ultimately take off that backpack and place it next to your path. Imagine your path in front of you filled with flowers, left and right, beautiful colors, soothing colors - your favorite colors - and giving you so much calm, so much joy to look forward to. And imagine you can walk that path now without that weight - feeling so light, feeling so empowered. So continue to write that list now. If you need more time, maybe you want to pause the podcast here and just continue with your list, and I will wait here for you until you are ready to go to the next question.

Great, well done! And so great that you are having now a list full of those things that you want to let go. Now we want to head over to the next question. My next question to you is, now, "Why do you want to let go of all the things that you wrote down? Why is it so important to you?" Maybe it's important to you because it makes you feel lighter. Maybe it's giving you some more empowerment. Maybe it's helping you to feel that you are opening a new chapter and can close an old one. Maybe it's just a new beginning. Whatever it is that is now helping you with this, I wanted to really write down, "Why? - Why do you want to let go of all the things that you listed up?" Again, If you need more time, I want you to pause it here and take the time to write it down now - all your thoughts, reflections, your 'why', and come back when you're ready for the next and final question.

Again, well done. Well done to find the time for yourself. Now, going over to the last question. Now, let's play a little magic here. I always like to use the metaphor of the magic wand. So, let's just think you go to sleep tonight, have a very sound and profound sleep, a refreshing sleep, and then you wake up tomorrow morning, and all the things that you wanted to let go have gone - disappeared from your thoughts, from your mind, from your heart. And I want for you to go into that feeling. How will you feel if all the things have disappeared from your mind and your heart - those unhelpful things from your list? How would you feel different? And what would you do instead? Take the time to really visualise and feel that emotion that comes up - that emotion of maybe feel liked. Maybe feeling happy, content, calmer. Maybe more balanced or more grounded. Some people say they feel more clarity in their mind. I want for you to really take the time again. Amazing and well done! So now that you have done so much work already for today, some people ask me, "Well, okay, what do I do with all what I have written down?" So for some people, it's good enough to keep it in their journal. And for some people, they really would like to do something with it. So, if you wrote it down on a piece of paper, for some people, it's helpful to bin it. For other people, they truly want to burn it. And if you opt for the for the burning option, just do that please in a safe place. You can do that even with a small ceremony. That's actually what I did when I attended the full moon yoga class. We were handed out small pieces of paper, and then we wrote down all the things we wanted to burn, to let go, and indeed, we went to a little fireplace that was set up outside for us, and then we burned one after the next. I felt truly that it was extremely helpful for me. But it doesn't need to be that extreme. It can even be that just to bin it, whatever can be helpful. And for others, it could be just journal about it. So choose your options and then go for it.
